Rhasidat Adekele smashed the Irish 400m race record as she placed third in a time of 50.70 at the Big 12 Championships Meeting in Texas on Monday, 16 May 2022.
The double U20 European 100/200m champion’s breath-taking performance breaks Joanne Cuddihy’s record of 50.73 which had stood since 2007.
Adeleke’s record breaking time is all the more impressive in that she had clocked a 51.70 (then PB) just 24 hours before the final.
The 19-year-old Tallaght star is now remarkably the fastest Irishwoman of all time in the 60m, 200m, 300m and 400m categories.
