Rising South African track and field athletes shone on day 1 of the ASA Youth and Junior Championships at the Msunduzi Stadium in Pietermaritzburg on Thursday, 23 March 2023.

In the under 16 javelin category, Stephanie Hook grabbed the first gold for her province (Athletics Central North West) with a throw of 46.54m.

While, Timeke-Jade Coetzee grabbed gold for Athletics Gauteng North in the girls under 18 triple jump with a distance of 12.26m.

2023 South African U20 Champion, Shannon Purchase of Athletics Free State, took gold in the Women’s Pole Vault after she cleared a 3.3m distance.
