Nikita Robb of East London took the win and the R5,000 prize purse in the Jeffrey’s Bay Open of Surfing on Saturday 13 July at South Africa’s iconic small-town surf destination.
Robb scored some big hits on the smaller waves in the inaugural even’t final day, which was completed in small and testing offshore conditions at Supertubes.
The 2013 South African Champion surged into the lead early in the final and despite some inspired surfing from runner up Sarah Baum of Durban, managed to maintain her lead by a mere ,10 points.
Tanika Hoffman (Hout Bay) finished third, and current South African U20 Girls Champion, Emma Smith of Jeffrey’s Bay, came fourth.
Contest organiser Koffie Jacobs from JBU Surf Club was very happy with the event and the turn-out, and showed his enthusiasm looking ahead to next year. “We are all very stoked with the way things have turned out,” said Koffie.
“We are totally committed to next year and are planning on going bigger and better! It was great to see all the support, and thanks to everyone for coming to our event.”
The Best Wave Award of the event went to Sarah Baum, who also won a FireWire Surfboard from Country Feeling Surf Shop.
