The SPAR South African women’s hockey team will be looking for another strong performance when they face USA this afternoon at the Samsung Hockey World Cup in Madrid, Spain.

South Africa put in sterling all round performance against defending champions, and world number two, Argentina, on Saturday, coming within three minutes of beating the South Americans, eventually settling for a two-all draw.

Coach, Jenny King, told gsport that “today is the true test” and the team is “hoping to have more of the ball”.

Jen Wilson was outstanding against Argentina, and South Africa will once again be looking to her to put pressure on the USA defence.

South Africa lost their opening match against Australia, and then followed it up with a hard fought 0-0 draw with Korea.

Today’s match kicks off at 2pm – live on Supersport 1 and CSN
