SA Success at World Squash Champs

South Africa
continue to cause upsets at the World Team Squash Championships, this time
outplaying 8th seeds, France 2-1, and will now meet Canada in the play-off for
ninth position.

Gautenger Diana
Argyle notched the first point for South Africa when she disposed of
Celia Allamargot in straight games.

France then levelled matters when Camille
Serme ranked 49 in the world beat Farrah Sterne of Northerns also in straight
games.

Western
Province’s Siyole Lusaseni, who earlier in the week had upset the world’s
number 24 Annalize Naude a former South African, now living in the Netherlands,
clinched the match for South Africa when she outlasted Maud Duplomb in a tight
four game encounter.

Lusaseni
edged through 14-12 in the first game before Duplomb ran away with the second
11-5. But the former UCT engineering student showed her tenacity and
determination when trailing 4-8 in the third game and 5-9 in the fourth to
swing the tables and win both games 12-10 and 15-13 to give South Africa a
well earned victory.

In a repeat
of the 2006 event defending champions, England,
the top seeds, will clash with second seeded Egypt in the final of the
Championships.

In the
semi-finals England ousted
third seeds New Zealand
3-0. In contrast Egypt had a
close tussle with Malaysia
edging through 2-1.
