SA U19 Look to Bounce Back After First T20 Series Loss to India

South Africa’s U19 women’s team will look to bounce back, after their 54-run loss to India U19 Women in their first of five T20 matches at Steyn City High School on Tuesday, 27 December 2022.

The young South Africans won the toss and opted to bowl first, where India managed to reach 137/5 in 20 overs.

Shweta Sehrawat guided her team with 40 runs before she was caught by Kayla Reyneke.

Ayanda Hlubi took two wickets on the day, taking out captain Shafali Verma for a duck and Richa Ghosh 15 (11).

Reyneke also sent Soniya Mendhiya (2) back to the stands, meanwhile Monalisa Legodi earned herself one wicket on the scoreboard, dismissing Soumya Tiwari for 36 off 46 balls.

Denisha Devnarain’s girls where restricted to 83/8 in 20 overs, as the quick fall of wickets curtailed the chase.

Shabnam Shakeel and Archana Devi were both star bowlers on the field, taking three wickets each; with Shakeel taking out Elandri Janse van Rensburg for 5(5), Simone Lourens 3(10) Kayla Reyneke almost holding it for the team but went out after 20(25), meanwhile Devi took out Oluhle Siyo 8(19), Madison Landsman for 10(15) and solo act as she dismissed Jenna Evans for 7(12).
