Semmelink crowned FNB Platinum Trail Run champion

North West Province, South Africa – Trail running enthusiasts gathered in their masses at the ATKV Buffelspoort on Sunday, 22 May 2016 to experience trail running at its best at the 4th annual FNB Platinum Trail Run.

Making her event debut, Marianne Semmelink secured victory in the women’s 24km FNB Platinum Trail Run in an impressive time of 01 hour 54 minutes 46 seconds. “I only recently started taking part in trail run events,” says a delighted Semmelink. “I really enjoy being out in nature. I view it as my quiet time. Crossing the finish line first was unreal. I didn’t expect it. I will definitely be back next year.” Natalie Ross came in second, while Bianca Grotepass finished third.

Leilani Scheffer crossed the finish line first in the women’s 12km FNB Platinum Trail Run in a time of 53 minutes 54 seconds. According to Scheffer she opted for the 12km race as she wanted to enjoy the route. “The route was awesome, easier than last year. It’s a fast run with climbs that are just long enough. It’s definitely the perfect stepping stone into the sport of trail running.” Leanne Trollope came in second, while Lilandi Swanepoel finished third.

Cronje was the first lady home in the women’s 8km FNB Platinum Trail Run in a time of 40 minutes 38 seconds. Caitlin Thompson came in second, while Petro van der Merwe finished third.

Congratulations to all the athletes who took part in this year’s event. The route chosen for the FNB Platinum Trail Run makes it an exciting race with great scenery and an equally invigorating terrain.” says Mike Vacy- Lyle, CEO FNB Business.
