North West Province, South Africa – Trail running enthusiasts gathered in their masses at the ATKV Buffelspoort on Sunday, 22 May 2016 to experience trail running at its best at the 4th annual FNB Platinum Trail Run.

Making her event debut, Marianne Semmelink secured victory in the women’s 24km FNB Platinum Trail Run in an impressive time of 01 hour 54 minutes 46 seconds. “I only recently started taking part in trail run events,” says a delighted Semmelink. “I really enjoy being out in nature. I view it as my quiet time. Crossing the finish line first was unreal. I didn’t expect it. I will definitely be back next year.” Natalie Ross came in second, while Bianca Grotepass finished third.

Leilani Scheffer crossed the finish line first in the women’s 12km FNB Platinum Trail Run in a time of 53 minutes 54 seconds. According to Scheffer she opted for the 12km race as she wanted to enjoy the route. “The route was awesome, easier than last year. It’s a fast run with climbs that are just long enough. It’s definitely the perfect stepping stone into the sport of trail running.” Leanne Trollope came in second, while Lilandi Swanepoel finished third.

Cronje was the first lady home in the women’s 8km FNB Platinum Trail Run in a time of 40 minutes 38 seconds. Caitlin Thompson came in second, while Petro van der Merwe finished third.

Lynnette Jones claimed the Queen of the Magaliesberg title after completing the 70km FNB Magalies Monster MTB Classic and 24km FNB Platinum Trail Run in a combined time 06 hours 41 minutes 26 seconds.

Defined by its exclusivity and terrain, trail runners were granted the unique opportunity to experience some of the best trails on offer in the area. Featuring a 24km, 12km and 8km route, the FNB Platinum Trail Run catered for athletes of all fitness levels.

• The 24km route was best suited for experienced and well-conditioned runners. Although tough, the views and scenery up on the mountain made all the sweat and effort worthwhile.
• The 12km route was the perfect stepping stone to build up experience and confidence for trail running.
• The 8km route was a good novice level entry distance. Although ideal for participants who have only recently been introduced to trail running, the 8km route was also perfect for those runners looking for a hard, fast workout as part of a specific training program.
