University of Cape Town has announced the appointment of Shiree Steyn as Head Coach of the women’s cricket club.

Speaking on her appointment, Steyn says: “It’s a huge honour to be appointed!”

She added: “My coaching style is holistic, I first coach the person. Implicit learning is key, we need to manipulate constraints to guide discovery – which I know is not a traditional approach but is part of my adaptive coaching philosophy. I believe in enhancing the player’s natural style of play.”

Steyn says she is excited about the challenge at hand and enthusiastic to live out her passion more towards cricket, through sharing her holistic (coaching, playing, umpiring, administrating) knowledge of the game. She continued saying that her initial approach will be the concept of periodisation and will adapt her coaching plan accordingly.

“I am so excited to work and develop the women’s team. It’s encouraging for women’s cricket to be recognized especially at tertiary level! I have no doubt that it will be an amazing experience,” she concluded.
