The Telkom SA Swimming Short Course Championships starts today in Pietermaritzburg, with a reported 406 contestants scheduled to compete.

Athletes will enjoy the presence of Swimming SA performance manager Mr Rushdee Warley and national coach Dirk Lange as they scout for fresh swimming talent.

Swimmers previously discovered at this event include Lauren Roets, Lize-Mari Retief and Suzaan van Biljon.

The champs will run until 1 October 2006 in Pietermaritzburg at the GC Jolliffe Swimming Pool.

“The Telkom SA short course championships is the premier domestic Swimming competition in the country,” said Warley.

“It will be world championships next march and swimmers must keep on performing to have any chance of being selected to the World Championships team” said national coach Mr Dirk Lange.
