My name is
Sibongile Rose Khulu and had the opportunity to work at Cricket South Africa as an intern in the Communications Department
under the leadership of Mr Steve Elworthy, Tshepo Tsotsotso and Gordon
Templeton from September 2006 to January 2007.
I am 21 years
old, confident, smart, driven and passionate about life. My favourite sport is
cricket and I am doing my 3rd year in Media Studies.
I had the privilege of working at the ICC World Twenty20 South Africa 2007 and would like to
share this experience with gsport. When
Rushmans Ltd was looking for additional staff members, my colleagues at Cricket
South Africa recommended me to Trudy Clark, Rushmans
Project Director. I got a call for an interview for the position and the rest
is history…
I was the
youngest contracted employee under Rushmans Ltd, working as the Twenty20
Administration Assistant reporting to Trudy Clark (Project Director), Cathy
Treasure, Hazel Bierzynski, Sybil Fernandes (ICC Host Liaison Officer), Paul
Pillay and Peter Osborn. They shared their wealth of knowledge with me and
guided me throughout my tasks and I delivered accordingly.
As
intimidating as it was in the beginning, I found motivation from my team to ask
questions when in doubt. This experience was a learning curve for me and I got
the privilege of meeting and working with a lot of people in the Media
industry.
I can safely
say that career wise I am in the right field of study because as stressful as
it sometimes was, I learnt that teamwork; hard work, an open flow of communication
and paying attention to detail are key factors to succeed in any job.
My favourite
match of the tournament was the opening match – South
Africa versus West Indies
because it was the first time this form of cricket was played at this scale (World
Cup format) and I was there to capture the moment. I am proud to be South
African and to have lived to experience such a prestigious tournament and being
part of it was an overwhelming journey for me.
My hobbies
are reading novels, painting, going out to the movie and music. I am currently
reading The Secret by Rhonda Byrne, it is a very inspiring book and a
must read that can be enjoyed by everyone. My favourite quote is "Follow your
bliss and the universe will open doors for you where there were only walls" by
Joseph Campbell.
