Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies have clinched a spot in the CAF Women’s Champions League | COSAFA Qualifiers semi-final round, after a hard-fought 4-0 victory over Eswatini’s Young Buffaloes in Group B at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium in Clermont, KwaZulu-Natal, on Saturday, 2 September 2023.
While Sundowns Ladies may not have delivered a flawless performance, the Hollywoodbets Super League champions did encounter their fair share of missed opportunities, notably during the opening half where promising young talent Miché Minnies had her chances.
Nevertheless, the team found its stride as Lelona Daweti’s impressive hat-trick and Andisiwe Mgcoyi’s crucial goal ultimately secured a convincing 4-0 win over Young Buffaloes.
This victory propelled them into their third consecutive appearance in the semi-final of the tournament, underscoring their prowess and resilience in the competition.
In Group B, Mozambique’s Costa do Sol also secured their spot in the semi-final after a 2-1 win over the Comores’ Olympic de Moroni.
Albertina Pondja once again demonstrated her prowess on the field, netting an exceptional first-half goal and her second of the tournament. Her remarkable performance proved to be a cornerstone of Costa do Sol’s remarkable victory over Olympic de Moroni.
Notably, this marks Costa do Sol’s maiden appearance in the semi-finals, an impressive feat for the team in only their second appearance at this prestigious tournament.
