“We have forgotten the gifts that Gaia so freely gives. For it is the great Earth Mother who truly supports us as she carries us upon her body.  It is she who provides us with nourishment, grown from her body.  Her arteries are the rivers from which we drink and her soil is the womb to which we will all eventually return.
All of this we have forgotten.”

This month we embark on an exploration of the concept of Support in its various forms within our lives.

For the majority of us what most readily comes to mind is the support we receive from family and friends and how are lives are enriched through the love and nurturing we get from those closest to us.

Usually these true friends of the soul are a select few.

As Clarissa Pinkola Estes so eloquently says, “A woman must choose her friends and lovers wisely, for both can become like a bad stepmother and rotten stepsisters.  In the case of our lovers, we often invest them with the power of a great magician.  A lover can engender and/or destroy even our most durable connections to our own cycles and ideas”.

As you contemplate those who support you some questions you might ask yourself:
•    Are my relationships and friendships mutually supportive, or do I always do all the giving (or taking)?
•    Are any of my relationships detrimental or unhealthy to my body, mind or spirit?
•    What can I do to nurture my true friends of the soul?

Mindful choosing of friends, partners and teachers is so important to remaining intuitive, passionate, and in your own power.

The mentorship and support we receive from friends and teachers inspires us to live full, rich and productive lives.

As the human race we were never created to live separately from one another.

Our purpose and inspiration is at its peak when we regularly gather around the communal fires and share with one another.

An essential aspect to the health of the community is the support we give to each other.

There is always an unbroken circle between the support we receive and the support we are consequently able to give back.

Possibly one of the greatest challenges of this century will be our ability to reawaken community and support each other in these times of separation.

There are very few communal fires left burning.

Most people now spend great tracts of time observing others enacting their communal scenarios and passions on a television screen.

This age of technology can often leave us isolated and lonely, living behind high walls and often not even knowing the names of our neighbors.

It is interesting to note that one act of community that still draws us together are the players on a sports field.

Some points to ponder:
•    Are you involved in any community projects, or is there a cause you really believe in that you would like to be involved in?
•    Are you actively doing something positive to better your community, or do you expect others to do it?
•    Are you one of those always complaining about the poor service, violence, untidy pavements, destruction of nature, and so on?
•    When last did you commit a random act of compassion, love, generosity, caring or kindness?

Take the time to define what it is that truly supports you – your faith, your intuition, your connection to family and friends…

Is it the enormous love you hold in your heart, or perhaps your inner drive to create a better world for your children?

Give thanks for these gifts and strengths in your life.

Above all remain conscious enough to see through the illusions of this current age.

The liberation you achieve will not be without it’s pain, but it will be the force that enables you to make the greatest contributions, to your community, and to your mother earth.
