Cyclists who have not yet secured their team entry for the Coronation Double Century Cycle Challenge have until lunch time today to do so.
Entries for the event, which is sponsored by Coronation Fund Managers and presented by Cycle Lab, will officially close at midday today (Wednesday, 17 October).
"Teams who have already registered via Cycle Lab may continue to finalise their team structure until they have filled their maximum quota of twelve riders," says Helane Fourie of the Pedal Power Association, organisers of the race.
"However, no new teams will be accepted after tomorrow," said Fourie. The entry field has been limited to 2,000 cyclists this year, as part of a strategic move to gradually grow the event and ensure long-term sustainability.
"We are excited to see the amount of support that this event has received from local and international cyclists," says Neville Chester, Coronation Fund Managers executive.
"This race embodies team spirit, strategy, resilience and endurance – traits that are closely mirrored by the Coronation business ethos and that make us proud to be associated with an event of this nature."
The Coronation Double Century Cycle Challenge is scheduled to take place on Saturday, 24 November, and will start and finish in Swellendam.
The 202km route will take cyclists from Swellendam to the Tradouw Pass via Suurbraak, from where they will cycle towards Barrydale, climb the challenging 7km Op de Tradouw, before making their way to Montagu.
The route then snakes through Cogmanskloof towards Ashton, turning left onto the R317 towards Bonnievale and back to the finish.
