Defending champion Abbey Miedema took control of the Isuzu Berg River Canoe marathon with a solo charge that secured a tactically significant thirty second lead over Graeme Solomon on a very full and fast-flowing river.

Abbey Wins Wild Water First Stage

The 62km opening day of the Isuzu Berg River Canoe Marathon from Paarl to Zonquasdrift was raced on a very full and rising Berg river, and despite an eleventh-hour rule change for women paddlers, South Africa wild-water canoeing queen Abbey Miedema comfortably conquered all for a commanding early first place.

Abbey Eyes Another Berg Win

Abbey Miedema is lining up a hat-trick of wins in the Isuzu Berg River Canoe Marathon that starts in Paarl on Wednesday July 9, but is anticipating a tough race-within-a-race for the top women, for an outcome that will materially effect their prize-money.

Miedema Tri-Nations Queen
