The ChemSpec Durban Surfing Junior Provincial Championships, which was completed in difficult surf at Durban’s New Pier Sunday (October 14), has been hailed as a remarkable success by organisers and the host province, KwaZulu-Natal.

“I started in Muizenberg about four years ago”, explains Tanika. “I got into it quite easily. I was just messing around with a bodyboard, and I saw people surfing, it looked like fun, and I wanted to do it.”

SA Into Last 16 Surfing

The strength of women’s surfing in South Africa was evident at the ISA World Surfing Games in California yesterday when Rosanne Hodge (East London) and Tammy-Lee Smith (Salt Rock, KZN) both progressed through two rounds of competition, to reach the last 16 in the qualifying stream of the biennial event.  

SA Surf Team for ISA World Games

The 2006 SA Surfing Team will leave Cape Town for the United States tomorrow (Tuesday October 10) to compete in the ISA World Surfing Games which gets under way in Huntington Beach California on Saturday October 14.
