Senior women’s soccer team Banyana Banyana have salvaged pride and honour by placing third in the 5th African Women’s Championships, after beating Cameroon’s Lionesses 5-4 on penalties after drawing 2-2 at the final whistle last night.

Banyana Banyana play their final African Woman’s Championship encounter today at 4pm (SA local time), in the continental tournament’s third/fourth place play-offs against a physical Cameroon in a now-familiar Oleh Stadium.

The South African National Women’s Soccer Squad, Banyana Banyana leave for Nigeria from the OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg at 3:30pm this afternoon, and their flight will be all the more significant for having just met former South African President, Nelson Mandela.
