The Majestic Hotel in East London, Border Surfriders Association and Surfing South Africa have combined forces to present the annual SA Open of Surfing, an event which will feature some of the country’s best women surfers, who will be competing for a share of the combined men’s and women’s pool of R15 000 in prize-money on offer.
Heading up the Women’s entry is current SA Champion Heather Clark of Port Shepstone, who relishes the opportunity to strut her stuff in the break’s well-known plus-size surf, and is well acquainted with the Nahoon Reef action.
Stacey Guy of Melkbos, who was runner up to Clark at the SA Championships at Victoria Bay, has entered along with Tasha Mentasti of Durban, local WQS surfer Nikita Robb and fellow East London surfers Alice and Laurie McGregor.
Any of SA Team member Tarryn Chudleigh of Kommetjie, Chantelle Rautenbach of Melkbos and national trialist Faye Zoetmulder of Port Elizabeth could also be in the running for this prime annual event.
Online entry forms for the SA Open of Surfing are available from the Surfing South Africa website, and entries close on Monday September 1.
Surfers must be members of the SSA Pro Surf Tour to compete in this event. Online PST application forms are available from Surfing South Africa website.
The Opening Function of the SA Open of Surfing will take place at the Majestic Hotel, just above Orient Beach on Friday, 5 September, 6.30 for 7pm.
