Heidi Palmboom will lead the Lotto South African Future Stars surfers
in a contest against 2007 National Junior Team Champions Western
Province and Boland in both individual competition and Tag Team events,
taking place at either Muizenberg Pavilion or Long Beach, Kommetjie,
this Saturday and Sunday.
The talented Palmboom leads the Under 18 Girls team, also including Rashia Smith, a CDog member who represented the Future Stars in Durban last year, while WP surfers Jessie Harding Goodman and Amy Bosworth, who were included in the SA Academy Team after the 2006 Reef Wetsuit SA Grommet Games, will make their debut for the Future Stars team.
The Future Stars concept was introduced by Surfing South Africa in 2007, and is an initiative aimed at giving talented up-and-coming surfers an opportunity to compete in national tournaments.
The teams compete in selected events in KZN, Western Cape and Eastern Cape, and are made up of surfers who show potential to represent South Africa in the future.
Surfers from all cultures and communities are included in the various Future Stars teams, and selection is made from the SA Academy membership, and from junior provincial teams.
The third tournament in the Lotto Future Stars Challenge will take place in the Eastern Cape on February 2 and 3, and will see a Future Stars team come up against surfers from Eastern Province and Border.
