The top seeds at the Growthpoint Junior National Championships have continued their impressive form on Day 3 of the tournament in Mangaung, with some dominant performances in the third-round matches.
Top seed Kaitlyn Ramduth of KwaZulu-Natal defeated ninth-seeded Amike Botha 6-1, 6-1 in the girls’ open category. Ramduth will next face Arili Boshoff of Mpumalanga for a spot in the semi-finals.
In the girls’ under-16 category, top seed Morgan Jordaan of Pretoria eliminated Ansone Theron of Free State 6-4, 6-0 to advance to the quarterfinals against seventh seed Nina Van Eeden of Winelands. Meanwhile, in the girls’ under-14, top seed Alicia Taylor of the Western Cape defeated Ava Contomathios 6-0, 6-1 and will now face compatriot tenth seed Julia Kockott.
Elsewhere, Lily Haley of KwaZulu-Natal, the girls’ under-12 top seed, continued her winning streak, defeating Liyabukwa Magigaba 6-1, 6-0 to advance to the last eight stage.
The tournament has showcased some excellent tennis so far, and the top seeds have shown why they are the ones to beat. Fans can look forward to more exciting matches as the tournament progresses.
The Growthpoint Junior National Championships will continue tomorrow (Sunday) with the quarterfinals of each category. The matches will be held at five premier Bloemfontein venues: Free State Stadium, Grey and Eunice School, University of Free State, Mundene Tennis Klub, and Oranje Meisieskool.
