Vera Pauw’s time as Ireland Women’s Football head coach is set to come to an end as the Football Association of Ireland (FAI) did not renew her contract.
Pauw’s four-year term ends at the end of August after the FAI said in a lengthy meeting on Tuesday that they will not offer her a new contract.
The 60-year-old that was appointed in September 2019 and led Ireland to their first major tournament at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and a FIFA Women’s World ranking of 22.
FAI CEO Jonathan Hill said the following in a statement: “On behalf of the Football Association of Ireland, we would like to thank Vera for her hard work and commitment over the past four years and wish her well for the future.”
He added: “In particular, I wish to acknowledge the role she played in leading Ireland to the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 where our Women’s team made history and inspired a nation.”
Ireland will host Northern Ireland in the Women’s Nations league on Saturday, 23 September in Dublin. The senior women’s team will be led by Eileen Gleeson in a caretaker capacity as the FAI begin the search for a long-term replacement.
