The 2016 SPAR gsport Awards was a victory for women in more ways than one.
From start to finish, in front of the camera and behind the scenes, the effort to stage the country’s top women’s sport Awards was led by powerful women keen to help each other succeed.
The event was put together by the irrepressible Felicia Ntisa and her M-Sports Marketing team, and it set the scene for an impressive night of celebrating the strides made by women in sport during the year.
“Felicia’s work speaks for itself. She accepted the brief of putting together an elegant, classy affair befitting a celebration of women’s sport, and she delivered in style,” said gsport Founder, Kass Naidoo.
“We have received a mountain of compliments from guests who stayed to party until the early hours of the morning,” said Naidoo.
Coverage of women’s sport is always a sore point, but from a SPAR gsport Awards perspective, there are only good news stories to tell.
From the live TV broadcast on SABC 2 to rolling updates on Radio 2000, South Africa was plugged in from start to finish, as its leading women in sport were honoured.
For the 10th Awards in a row, Estee Lauder spoiled VIPS and guests as makeup artists ensured that finalists looked their best, and that guests got to experience the EL brand up close and personal.
Style has become an essential part of the gsport Awards. From guests to finalists, the pink carpet is always full of glitz and glamour.
A new innovation this year was involving Style Alert SA to dress the finalists of the Style Star of the Year category. Owner, Thuli Mola, went out of her way to ensure that each finalist felt comfortable in her own skin.
“Thuli brought a new element to this year’s awards and it certainly has got us thinking about ways in which we can enhance the experience for our finalists next year,” said Naidoo.
“Big Five Duty Free continued to impress with luxury winners bags that had everyone talking on social media. A big thank you to Helena Melis for always spoiling our winners and making them feel like the champions they are.
Ultimately, it was the Anele show! This media powerhouse held court from start to finish and had guests in stitches with her witty comments and rip roaring laughter which set the scene for the after party that followed.
#gsport11, which top trended in South Africa throughout the evening proceedings, will go down as the best gsport Awards yet!
