With two major Women’s Cricket World Cups looming on home soil, women’s cricketers in South Africa are working hard to ensure they are ready when the opportunity presents itself, while the 2022/23 Season also sees full CSA National Weeks return to normal after Covid-19.
On Sunday evening, Cricket South Africa hosted the SA U19 Women’s Capping Ceremony ahead of their debut appearance in the fourth edition of the Women’s Super League to prepare for the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup in South Africa in January 2023.
The WSL, featuring Momentum Proteas and other leading women’s cricketers, gets underway on Monday, 12 December, and will provide a stern test for up and coming stars. Selectors will no doubt keep a close eye on who is standing up under pressure.

The return to normal of the Cricket South Africa (CSA) national weeks after COVID-19 disruptions in the past two years is welcome news to all involved in the development of the women’s game.
The Girls U16 Week starts on the 12–15 December in East London.
Some of the match ups on Day one will see Western Province take on Lions Cricket at Stirling Primary School, Eastern will battle Boland at Old Boys and Limpopo vs KZN Inland at Hudson Park ON DAY 1 in the 50 over format.
The Girls U19 Week will be held in Bloemfontein from 13-16 December.
Looking at selected fixtures on Day 1 of the U19 tournaments: Lions Cricket vs Western Province, North West vs Limpopo, KZN Coastal vs Eastern Province, KZN Inland vs Titans Cricket, Border vs Garden Route Badgers and Northern Cape take on Kei all at Grey College. Mpumalanga will face Free State at CUT and at CBC Boland will meet Easterns.
Day 3 and Day 4 is scheduled for the T20 leg of the competition.
Niels Momberg, Youth & Tertiary Cricket Manager, commented on the importance of CSA Youth Weeks as they serve as a breeding ground for talent in the country.
“After massive disruptions due to the COVID pandemic, Youth and Tertiary cricket are back in full swing and not a minute too late,” commented Momberg.
“The Annual Youth and USSA tournaments play a vital and irreplaceable part in the CSA pipeline.
“The first of the National Youth Tournaments commences on Sunday, 11 December in Gauteng, hosted by Lions Cricket while the rest will follow across the country.
“We expect high-quality cricket and top-class levels of organisational excellence in all tournaments,” Momberg concluded.
