After the exhaustion of last week’s Women’s British Open, both South African ladies participating in the Scandinavian leg of the European Ladies Tour shot fair first rounds on day one.
Laurette Maritz did one better than Ashleigh Simon on yesterday’s opening round when she equalled the bogies on holes four and five with birdies on the opening round’s first and last holes, and then went one under on the 16th.
Simon seemed in better form up front, with three birdies in the first 6 holes, but fell away on the return, ending level par 73 for day one of the contest.
The pair will have to improve on day two however, with Swedish Annika Soremstam revelling in home conditions to go 7-under in hot and sunny conditions, breaking the course record into the bag.
Winner of last week’s major Sherri Steinhauer posted a solid 68, and trails leader Soremstam by two overnight.
With play having just commenced on day 2, gsport will provide regular updates during the course of the weekend.
