The SPAR National Netball Championship has reached the business end in Port Elizabeth, and organisers are thrilled at how the tournament has unfolded.
BLD Sponsorship Consultant Bruce Davidson was upbeat on the success of the tournament, and was relieved that a high standard of play has drawn attention away from national netball controversy.
“We’re focussing on netball,” says Davidson, “The game has fortunately detracted from the controversy. The NSA president has our full support, and everyone hopes for speedy resolution.”
Davidson continues: “We are all delighted by the standard of netball, particularly in the A-Section, but there have been gutsy performances on display by all teams.”
In one of the final matches holding little significance for either team other than pride, Boland came out on top in this morning’s contest against Gauteng East.
“It was a very physical game,” said a relieved Boland captain Anel Mostert, “But no team has had an easy ride, no game could be taken for granted.”
“I don’t know what the final score was, but we beat them by at least 15 goals,” Mostert continued.
With the final on Saturday already settled with Free State and Boland to play out for victory, Mostert only had good things to say of Boland.
“I’m very proud of my team, they have played a very good game so far. Considering the high standard of play in this tournament, I think Boland has played well to be in this position."
Quizzed on Boland’s strategy for this evening’s final match against their title competitors, Mostert tactfully avoided revealing team strategies, but she was happy to confirm that Boland won’t be resting any key players.
“No, we won’t change the team, we intend to play our best team and to play hard, this will be good practice for tomorrow!”.
