The second edition of the SAFA National Women’s League got off to an impressive start as newcomers JVW Girls Football Club, defending champions, Mamelodi Sundowns, First Touch, among others, earn victories in the first round of fixtures.

World Record for Maria Combrink

Para-athlete Maria Combrink, a single leg amputee, secured a new World Record in the women’s F64 shot-put event with a massive 11.15 metre heave on the closing day of the Toyota SASAPD National Championship in Gqeberha. Unfortunately due to a curtailed programme at this years’ Paralympics, Combrink’s class does not have a medal event at the Paralympic Games, and she can’t qualify for a rare South African entry to the world stage.
