In 2022, gsport provided a platform for women in sport to elevate their careers, as we opened the industry to blood the next generation.
Earlier in the year, gsport Founder Kass Naidoo started #gsportLIVE every Monday on YouTube, where subscribers were kept in the loop on the latest women’s sport news and were treated to engaging #BigInterviews with some of the biggest stars in the game.
After a few episodes, Naidoo passed on the baton to former gsport Newsroom writer, Babsie Kutwana and I, gsport Content Lead Celine Abrahams.
Although we were initially nervous to take over, the opportunity gave us a chance to explore our talents away from our daily writing routine and gave us more confidence in front of the camera.
The Rise of #gsportLIVE’s Babsie Kutwana and Celine Abrahams
Our work on #gsportLIVE afforded us a once in a lifetime opportunity to work on the big screen on SuperSport, as we were part of an exceptional Presenter Squad which featured award-winning sport presenter Julia Stuart, as well as top sport anchor Leigh-Ann Diedloff and global sport presenter, Usher Komugisha, for the 2022 Momentum gsport Awards.
The awards stage also shone the spotlight on 2020 Momentum gsport Awards Woman in Radio winner, Itumeleng Banda, who was on the mic on the red carpet for gsport’s YouTube streaming.
Growing the Conversation on Twitter!
Another platform which has grown in leaps and bounds over the past few months has been our gsport Twitter Space Thursday conversations.
With listeners tuning in from across the globe, the platform has not only given a voice to the gsport Team, but it allowed former Momentum gsport Award winners to test their presenting skills during the #gsport17 Power of Recognition campaign.
The likes of Mbali Sigidi, Marisa Calvert, Jo Prins, and Rabi Mpete, to name a few, were exceptional as they grabbed the opportunity with both hands.
Recently, gsport Writer and radio presenter Oarabile Diphoko has stepped up as host of the weekly chat show, where she has had various guests join her to talk about the latest topics in women’s sport.
Tonight, Diphoko will be chatting to women in sport gsport has positively impacted. Tune in at 7pm CAT!
IG Live Spreading the Coverage of Women’s Sport
It is incredible to see how the gsport Team has taken up every opportunity on social media to spread the coverage of women’s sport with IG Live being the latest inclusion.
Radio2000 sport presenter and gsport Writer Lonwabo Nkohla is also using her voice as she hosts our IG Live every Tuesday evening.
The experienced Nkohla did not hesitate when she was tasked to entertain our followers. To date, she has interviewed former Momentum gsport Awards winners, #gsport17 finalists as well as women in sport who continue to shatter barriers in sport, globally.
#GAL2022 Wraps Up the Year
Our latest venture, which perfectly wrapped up 2022, was the gsport Annual List of Newsmakers event held at Workshop 17 in Rosebank.
The gathering, which had superstar athletes, icons, administrators, corporate giants, and the media under one roof, was another opportunity to give young women a chance to shine.
2022 Momentum gsport Supporter of the Year winner, Nakedi Thlathla, who is a standout in the kitchen, was given the honour to bake the cake and cupcakes, which were a big hit among our guests.
The event also afforded the opportunity for former gsport intern, Valencia Seshoene, who was brought in as a second photographer on the day, working alongside Nokuthula Mbatha who has been using her skills behind the lens at various netball tournaments.
New faces also emerged at #GAL2022, as fitness trainer and hockey coach Jessica De Lira was invited to mingle and test her skills creating content for the gsport Team. Her presence on the day paved the way for a second opportunity with the gsport Team at the recent launch of the ICC U19 Women’s World Cup in Benoni.
De Lira has now joined the gsport Team on a three-month intern basis, as we continue to open the doors for women to thrive in the sporting space.
