94.7 Entry Deadline Extended

Due to a last minute rush of entries into the 2007 Pick ‘n Pay 94.7 Cycle Challenge, organisers have extended a final entry deadline to 5pm on Monday, 8 October 2007, and cyclists still wanting to participate in the race are urged to enter on time.

The 11th Pick ‘n Pay 94.7 Cycle Challenge takes place on Sunday, 18 November 2007, and will once again start and finish at the Waterfall Equestrian Estate.

Following the success of last year’s event at this new venue, a number of improvements have been made to enhance the experience for all cyclists.

The finish will lead cyclists off the R55 and into the Estate, from where they will cross the timing mats, and a shuttle service is being introduced to take spectators to and from the finish area.

"The Pick ‘n Pay 94.7 Cycle Challenge has grown from strength to strength and each year is better than the last. We’re confident these improvements will be favourably received by both cyclists and spectators alike," explained Dex de Bruin, 94.7 Highveld Stereo marketing manager.

"With more than 28 000 riders heading out onto the 94.7km route last year, we’re expecting even more participants this year in what has become the second largest, mass participation, timed cycling event in the world."

With the full road closure it enjoys, as well as world-class logistical back-up and precise disaster management, the Pick ‘n Pay 94.7 Cycle Challenge is also now regarded as Joburg’s Safest Race and has become an annual highlight on the city’s calendar.

As in previous years, the Pick ‘n Pay 94.7 Children’s Cycle Challenge and Pick ‘n Pay 94.7 Mountain Bike Challenge will both take place at the same venue, the day before on Saturday, 17 November 2007.

For the sixth consecutive year the Homeless Talk Pre-School in Hillbrow will be the benefiting charity of the event. The school provides a safe haven – off the streets – for the children of Homeless Talk newspaper vendors.

The Pick ‘n Pay 94.7 Cycle Challenge is proudly hosted in conjunction with the City of Joburg, a world class African city, and bears testament to its ability to host events of this magnitude.
