Cherise Willeit won the Amashova Durban Classic, following an intense competition in the oldest classic race (one-day ride) on Sunday, 23 October 2022.
The 36th edition of the race returned with the full 106km route this year after Covid-19 disruptions last year.
Willeit came in first in a time of 02:52:52.100, followed by Jo van de Winkel in 02:52:52.20 and Bridget Theunissen in 02:54:50.600.
Following her victory, Willeit said: “The top ladies were riding very well in today’s race, especially on the downhills, and my teammate and I had to keep the pace so high going down the descents, taking some risks, which luckily paid off.”
In September, van de Winkel won the 106km aQuellé Tour Durban road race, which started and finished at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, with Willeit coming in third.
The Sandton City ladies have had an incredible year so far, with fellow teammate Sonica Klopper coming in 7th place at the Amashova race.
