South Africa’s leading wheelchair tennis star Kgothatso Montjane speaks on her partnership with Virgin Active, as the deal was officially announced on Saturday, 22 October 2022.

The deal which was previously announced by Optimize Agency CEO Emy Casaletti-Bwalya on a gsport Twitter Space Thursday chat, will see Virgin Active as Montjane’s official health and wellness partner.

It provides Montjane with the full suite of Virgin Active clubs and facilities that cater for her sport and fitness needs, aimed at supporting her career as she continues to represent the country on the global stage.

Speaking in the official announcement, Montjane said: “The great thing about Virgin Active is that it is a brand that all South Africans can relate to, and one that has members from all walks of life.

“It creates unique spaces fit for all, where everyone feels like they belong, regardless of their fitness level. I’m excited to work with them to inspire the country to get excited about living active lives.”

Virgin Active Marketing Director, Lyndsay Webster-Rozon, said: “Part of our commitment to working with inspirational athlete’s like KG is to help inspire South Africans to embrace health and wellness and find a love of fitness and exercise.

“Having KG join our family and ‘Friends of Virgin Active’ is part of our continued partnering with sportspeople across South Africa who share our purpose of empowering people to live active lives – it’s what we stand for and why we exist.”

Montjane, was the first black African female to ever play at Wimbledon, took part in the Rio Paralympics in 2016, London in 2012, and Beijing in 2008. She is also the first black African to compete at all four grand slams in one calendar cycle in 2019 and has managed to pursue her BSC degree in recreation and leisure.
