Two-time World Cup champion and Olympic gold medallist Alex Morgan has announced the launch of her new venture, the Alex Morgan Foundation.
She’s no stranger to fighting for gender equality and through this foundation, the 33-year-old is set to continue that fight.
She says: “My foundation is committed to making a positive impact in the lives of girls and women in San Diego County and beyond.”
Morgan was one of the US Women National Team players that filed a gender discrimination lawsuit against U.S Soccer in 2019 which saw a settlement of $24 million from the national federation and a landmark agreement that guaranteed equal pay for the women’s and men’s team.
“Throughout my career, I’ve fought for equal pay and safe, supportive work environments in women’s soccer to inspire chance on a systemic level,” Morgan wrote in a social media post.
Morgan also helped her the former Portland Thorns teammate Mana Shim file a sexual harassment complaint against their coach Paul Riley, which eventually led to the uncovering of widespread abuse across the NWSL.
The website states that: “When girls and women have opportunities in life, they become champions of themselves and their communities.
Launched in 2023, the Alex Morgan Foundation is dedicated to creating equity and opportunity on the field and off. We identify roadblocks preventing our communities from reaching their full potential and invest in tangible solutions when, where, and how they’re needed most.
Through research, partnership building, and relentless commitment, we’re supporting girls and women as they find their own confident path forward in sport and in life.”
The foundation’s website also lists equity in sports, opportunities for girls and support for moms as three main pillars of its mission.
Now the USWNT and San Diego Wave striker wants to make an even broader impact.
“Be it on the field or off, at home or in the community, I hope you’ll join us in our unwavering pursuit of a more empowered and equitable future everywhere,” Morgan wrote.
