Ashleigh Simon remains on course to take a second consecutive double today in the Sanlam SA Amateurs being played at the George Golf Course, after winning the Stroke Play Championship on Tuesday, and winning both trophies in the 2006 event.
Simon scored a convincing win 7 and 6 win over Charlene Proctor in the first round, before advancing 5 and 4 over Pam Hayward to challenge Caitlin Beckwith in the fourth round, starting today.
One disappointment of the Championship is the unexpectedly early exit of Kelli Shean, early contender for the Stroke Play cup before consecutive 2-over par rounds gave Simon the gap to surge ahead for a convincing victory on the final day.
In the Match Play champs, Shean started well with a 6 and 4 victory over Tanya Tibshraeny, before a narrow 2 and 1 defeat to Gina Switala, who earlier squeaked a 1up margin over the ever impressive Bertine Strauss.
Ashleigh Homes (3 and 2 over Monique Smit), Kim Williams (2 and 1 over Vicki Traut), Sarah Faller (4 and 3 over Iliska Verwey) and Border Amateurs champ Lizelle Muller (4 and 3 over Ganny de Reuck) make up the remaining contenders for the quarter-finals.
