Team Duravit have clinched their fourth stage win on day 4 of the 2007 Absa Cape Epic, with team members Anke Erlank-Moore and Yolandè de Villiers crossed the finish line in Barrydale after four and three-quarter hours, close to a half-hour ahead of stage runners-up Kristine and Anna-Sofie Noergaard (Denmark).

Erlank-Moore and de Villiers maintain their overall first position, now worth two hours and 18 minutes over Team Adidas Fiat Rothwild’s Kerstin Brachtendorf  (Germany) and Daniele Troesch (France).

Fourth-stage runners’up Kristine and Anna-Sofie Noergaard are in overall fourth position trailing the South African leaders by just short of three hours, while third placed Myriam Saugy and Fabienne Heinzmann (Switzerland) of team Texner BMC Toemus are two hours and 24 minutes behind the leaders, their fourth stage taking a half-hour longer than the pace setters.

Tuesday’s route kicked off at 7.00am in Ladismith, with the riders covering 121 kilometres of tarred roads and farm roads, short climbs and a few technical obstacles.

They then moved through the Leopard Rock game reserve and passed well known landmark, Ronnie’s Sex Shop, where sandy jeep tracks and wildlife are visible.

Then it is onto more rocky terrain for the final 30km into Barrydale. The total climb of the day added up to a total of 1 285 metres.

On Wednesday riders will find themselves more than half-way through the tough endurance race, as the day’s stage takes them from Barrydale and Montagu.

The 2007 Absa Cape Epic started in Knysna on Saturday 24 March, finishes at Lourensford Wine Estate in Somerset West, on Saturday 31 March 2007, and covers a total of 886 km’s over eight days, the equivalent of riding nearly twice up Mount Everest.

The Absa Cape Epic has within 4 years become not only the largest full-service mountain bike stage race in the world, but also, globally, the most televised mountain bike event of all time.

43 nations will be represented at the 2007 Absa Cape Epic and riders travel from as far as Brazil, Canada, Norway, Hong Kong and Australia to join this unique team race.

Amongst the entrants are Olympic gold medallists, world champions and reigning UCI World Cup champions.
