Anriëtte Schoeman (Nashua Toyota) took the first MTN Tour de Plet this weekend when she managed to break away from the bunch up the notorious Groot Rivier Pass in Natures Valley.
The ladies started this 110m race with the Elite and Vets men. Anriëtte Schoeman benefited by this as the only Nashua Toyota team member in the race facing the Ladies Bizhub Team.
From the start it was clear that the race would be dominated by a strong contingent from the MTN Qhubeka Professional Team.
As expected, the bunch was broken up into smaller groups against the 5km Keurbooms climb out side Plettenberg Bay when the MTN Qhubeka Team launched a serious attack sending riders away.
Anriëtte Schoeman (Nashua Toyota), Lindi Erasmus and Candice Neethling (Bizhub) managed to hang on to the summit of the climb until a sudden surge in the pace of the elite men left them behind.
At the 50km turning point MTN Qhubeka took control over the race, sending riders away.
Schoeman made her move up the 5km Groot Rivier Pass with 30km to go. Lindi Erasmus was left behind with some men, while Candice Neethling tried to close the gap on Schoeman.
But Schoeman slowly but surely managed to open the gap on the chasing group containing Erasmus and Neethling, and managed to stay away till the finish.
Anriëtte Schoeman took the ladies race in 03:04:43 with Lindi Erasmus 2nd in 03:07:07 and Candice Neethling 3rd in the same time.[/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
