ASFAR won their maiden CAF Women’s Champions League title, beating previous holders Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies 4-0 at Stade Prince Moulay Abdellah on Sunday, 13 November 2022.
Both teams started the match with attempts at goal, showing their intentions to get onto the scoreboard as early as possible in the match.
However, in the 15th minute of the match, Sundowns’ captain Zanele Nhlapho brought down Zineb Redouani in the box. The referee pointed to the penalty spot where Fatima Tagnaout converted for the hosts to take the lead.
The game went on to become a mountain to climb for the South African-based side when Rhoda Mulaudzi received her marching orders around the half hour mark for her poor challenge on Redouani.
Being a goal and a player down, Sundowns’s woes were worsened early in the second half when Nhlapho received her second booking of the match to reduce the team to 9 players.
Two minutes later with the odds stacked up against the Jerry Tshabalala-led side, a freekick from Tagnaout was netted by Jraidi.
Sundowns tried to push for a comeback despite being two players down but the players could not make the best of their chances.
In the 87th minute, Jraidi fired past goalkeeper Andile Dlamini before bagging her hat trick at the death to complete the victory.
Jraidi was then named Woman of the Match for the third time in the competition.
