South Africa’s top badminton performers, Johanita Scholtz and Amy Ackerman, have been awarded scholarships by the Badminton Confederation of Africa.

21-year-old Scholtz, who was recently crowned as the women’s singles champion at the All Africa Championship, was offered a 30-day scholarship at the Center of Excellence in Denmark. 

The scholarship will cater for Scholtz’s training, accommodation, and catering expenses.

After claiming a gold medal in the women’s doubles, a bronze in the mixed doubles, and Team Event, Ackerman was offered a scholarship to go to Dubai. 

Her scholarship will cover travel as well as training, accommodation, and catering expenses.

Also earning top honours at the All Africa Champs, Nita Scholtz won the first Gold for SA in the women’s singles category, beating 1st seed, Doha Hany of Egypt 21-, 21-11.
