Banyana Banyana head coach, Desiree Ellis, reveals that the team will go back to the drawing board following their third/fourth place playoff defeat to Zambia in the COSAFA Women’s Championship in Gqeberha on Saturday, 9 October 2021.

Zambia bagged the bronze medal in a penalty shootout, winning 4-3 after the match ended 1-all after regulation time.

“Each and every team on the Southern African part of the continent is growing, each and every team is putting in the work and we knew from last year how difficult it was, it wasn’t going to be easy,” said Ellis.

“Each and every team on the Southern African part of the continent is growing, each and every team is putting in the work and we knew from last year how difficult it was, it wasn’t going to be easy,” revealed Ellis.

“This is the first opportunity where the players get tested and if you are not showing, then we have to move forward without you, if you can’t test yourself here, we can’t go to the next level.

“We’ve got to go back to being who we are, we showed at the Buhari Cup what we capable of but we need to be consistent, that is the word, consistency.”

National team player, Sibulele Holweni, earned the top goalscorer of the tournament award for a second consecutive year with 8 goals.
