Six Banyana Banyana team players have been shortlisted in the prestigious Player of the Year category for the 2022 CAF Awards on Wednesday, 06 July 2022.
Andile Dlamini and Bambanani Mbane from Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies got the nod for their spectacular performance in the past year. Dlamini is the most trusted goalkeeper for Banyana Ba Style, being the backbone of the team and playing a huge role in the national side.
Mbane has also been raising her hand where national call ups are concerned, and back home she was honoured with the Player of the Season accolade at the Inaugural 2021 Hollywoodbets Super League awards after her impressive league campaign.
On the international front, Thembi Kgatlana has written her name on the world stage, having played for Houston Dash, Beijing BG Phoenix, SL Benfica, SD Eibar and Atletico Madrid, while Jermaine Seoposenwe has been and continues to be a key player for Desiree Ellis’ team.
AC Milan’s Refiloe Jane has enjoyed the rise of her career as she has taken up leading the national team at the 2022 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations.
Linda Motlhalo known as ‘Randfontein Ronaldinho’ plays for Djurgaderns in Sweden and is no stranger to the world stage as her appearances include taking part at the 2015 African U-20 Women’s World Cup Qualifying Tournament and received her first national team call up to the senior squad in the same year.
Motlhalo has in the past year helped South Africa win the Inaugural Aisha Buhari Cup in Lagos and became the top goal scorer in qualification for the 2022 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations.
The CAF Awards will be held on 21 July 2022 in Rabat, Morocco, ahead of the AWCON final.
