Banyana Banyana international Amogelang Motau is the latest player to sign a deal abroad. She will be joining Club Tijuana Femenil, a club based in Mexico from the University of the Western Cape.
Motau had a memorable 2024, she was instrumental when the Thinasonke Mbuli side won the COSAFA CAF Women’s Champions League 2024 Zonal Qualifiers to earn a sport in the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League in Morocco. She made it to the group stage best XI at the tournament.
Later in the year, she lead the side in their maiden CAF Women’s Champions League, a showpiece that saw TP Mezembe win the maiden title. There too she made a mark as she was once again named in the group stage best XI.

The former UWC captain won’t be alone in Mexico, she will be joining fellow Banyana players in the Liga MX Femenil, namely Jermaine Seoposenwe, who won the double last season, Thembi Kgatlana and Sinoxolo Cesane.
Motau and her team UWC fought hard in the 2023/24 season in a bid to unseat champions Mamelodi Sundowns in the annual Hollywoodbets Super League.
Although they finished runners-up, behind Sundowns for a third consecutive season, they are well on their way to one day, go one better and win the coveted title.
The skipper penned a heartfelt message to her now former team:

To cap a year to remember, the 27 year-old won the Player of the Season accolade for her efforts at the Western Cape club at the Hollywoodbets Super League Awards in Midrand.
She faced stiff competition but saw off Sundowns maestro Lebogang Ramalepe and sensation Yolanda Nduli of University of Johannesburg Ladies to win the gong.
As Banyana Banyana coach Desiree Ellis and her charges prepare to defend their WAFCON title in Morocco mid-year, this new chapter is a step in the right direction for Motau, and the senior national women’s team will benefit from her experience aboard.
