The Botswana Cricket Association has lived up to its promise to channel more resources to on-field and player welfare improvements after they awarded seven players with contracts.
Cricket has now become the second sport code in Botswana after football to introduce players’ contracts.
Shameelah Mosweu, who made history becoming the first female in Botswana to score a century, has been elevated to a contract player. While, all-time Botswana leading run-scorer and Captain, Laura Mophakedi also made it on the list.
After a strong performance recently, right-hand opening batter Florence Samanyika has been rewarded for her achievements. Onneile Keitsemang, Goabilwe Matome, Tuelo Shadrack and Oratile Kgeresi complete the list.
Vice-Chairperson of Botswana Cricket Association, Sumod Damodar is confident that the programme will yield results.
“The contracts will mutually benefit both parties and I am confident that it will work as planned. Once we secure more financial avenues we will contract more players,” he concluded.
