Caitlin Thompson Claims Two Gold Medals at UCI Africa Cycling Champs

South African cyclist, Caitlin Thompson, top performed at the UCI Africa Cycling Championship in Sahrm El Sheikhu, Egypt, winning two gold medals on Thursday, 24 March 2022.

Thompson cruised to victory in the junior women’s time trial in 22 minutes 24 seconds and went on to prove that she is in a class of her own, outclassing Eritrean Romna Guesh and Aline Uwera from Rwanda to win the junior women’s road race.

Algeria’s Nesrine Houili was also on top of her game, winning two gold medals in the women’s elite individual time trial and U23 road race event.

Egyptian Ebtissam Zayed Ahmed Mohaned and Kerry Jonker from South Africa finished second and third, respectively.

The Eritrean ladies’ teams made a clean swap in the team event winning the elite and junior women’s time trial gold medal.
