Mpumalanga Women’s Cricket coach Cielie Schmahl writes to gsport to encourage like-minded girls in her province to join her, as her team looks from an improved 06/07 season towards an even better future.
Cielie writes: Mpumalanga Cricket Union was established in August 2004, and is still a very young developing province, but we are proud to have a Ladies team participating in the Inland Provincial League, as well as an U/19 girls team playing in the Schools Cricket Week.
During the 2006/2007 season our ladies side had a 100% improvement rate from the previous season, and we believe that this is the beginning of good things to come.
These ladies are playing for the love of the game with all their hearts, and all we need is to be supported and believed in. The players show huge amount of talent, but we believe our best players may still be out there.
We are trying to reach all potential players and to develop them properly, but this is very difficult without sponsorships, facilities, equipment, publicity and people who support us.
To ensure we do get our best players together to represent our province, it is very important to have a proper club league.
Therefore if you are currently resident in Mpumalanga and you do want to get involved please, contact Cielie Schmahl. We are also in need of umpires and scorers, so please contact me if you can assist!
Cricket is such an awesome sport, and we hope you will join us to make it a success in Mpumalanga.
