Gauteng North’s Carmen de Jager has won the 2008 SA Women’s Closed Chess Championship in Belville, Cape Town, after winning five games, and drawing two.

De Jager, who also won this prestigious event back in 2006, finished the tournament with 6 out of 7 points, beating Gauteng West’s Monique Sischy (4.5 points) into second place and Western Province’s Anzel Solomons (4 points) into third.

Melissa Greeff and Jenine Ellappen both from Western Province tied for fourth place.

Tomorrow is the big day when the SA Women’s team is announced for the Chess Olympiad taking place in Dresden, Germany in November this year.
