Last week on gsport Twitter Space Thursday, host Oarabile Diphoko had the opportunity to chat to South Africa Indoor Hockey players Laiken Brisset and Celia Seerane.
The team earned a fourth-place finish at the FIH Indoor Hockey World Cup, which was hosted at Heartfelt Arena in Pretoria, South Africa.
Speaking on the team’s objectives going into the tournament, Seerane said: “The goal was to first make the quarter-finals and I am so proud to be involved in a team that sets these goals and actually achieves them.”
While Brisset, who scored her first international goal could not help but praise her team’s performances.
“I think we have come a long way during this World Cup and we have ticked off quite a few boxes. We have achieved far more than we could ever have imagined.”
Brisset further added: “Being able to play in front of your home crowd is such an amazing experience.”
Speaking on the growth of indoor hockey, Seerane explained: “The most important thing has been that Indoor Hockey has been growing. Seeing the crowd and having schools coming through shows the growth of the sport. Looking at Laiken who is 18 being able to participate in her first World Cup at home. As I am ending my career, I am very excited to see the new blood coming through and to inspire more kids out there, there is honestly nothing better.”
