Athletics South Africa has announced that the final instructions are available for the athletes that are running this year’s exciting City to City Marathon taking place on Monday, 25 September 2006.
Buses will be available on Monday 25 September, to pick up athletes from Pilditch Stadium at 4h30 to take them to the start of the 20km in Centurion as well as to the start of the 50km at Wanderers Club.
Additional buses will leave from Wanderers Club at 4h30 to shuttle athletes to the start of the 20km in Centurion.
Buses have been made available after the race to shuttle athletes back to their respective starting points where their cars will be parked – Centurion and Wanderers.
Tog bags will be safely transported from both starting points of the two races to the finish at Pilditch Stadium.
Registration for the 20km will be open on race day from 4h30 to 5h45 in Midrand, R101, where the 20km race will start.
Athletes who have pre registered may obtain their race numbers at Wanderers Club or at Pilditch Stadium. Athletes may also collect their race numbers on race days for both distances.
The MEC of Sport, Culture and Recreation in Gauteng, Ms Barbara Creecy is expected to fire the gun on Monday to start the 50km race as final seal of approval and support for this 103 year old ultra marathon.
“The fact that this marathon is 103 year old is a milestone in positioning Gauteng as the home of competitive sport.
"This race forms part of our Heritage month celebrations and on behalf of the Gauteng Provincial Government, I would like to wish all the athletes luck for the race,” the MEC said.
About 4350 athletes are expected to grace the Johannesburg and Tshwane roads on Monday, Paulina Phaho returning this year to shake the field and give Yolandi McLean, defending champion, a run for her money.
Entries for the 20km event are open until race day.
