Nine times national champion, Claire Nitch has been named as captain of the South African women’s squash team which will participate in the World Team Championships to be played in Edmonton Canada from 24th – 30th September.
Northerns’ Tenille Swartz (2006 champion), Diana Argyle (Gauteng) and Karen van der Westhuizen (Western Province) complete the line-up.
Accompanying the team will be National Coach, Richard Castle (Western Province) and manager Leora Greenwood (KwaZulu Natal).
Seeded 12 in the world, South Africa is in a pool with Netherlands (4th seeds), defending champions Australia (seeded five) and Germany (13th seeds).
In what appears to be one of the most wide-open events in recent years, England is the top seed followed by Egypt, a team of players who won the World Junior team title in 2003.
Malaysia is third seed followed by the Netherlands, whose women defeated South Africa in the recent Test Series in August, seeded fourth.
The event is played on the pool system, and then moves to a knockout quarterfinals play-off format.
