
The 2008 People
Magazine Crystal Awards took place at Theatre on the Track in Kyalami last
night in a star-studded affair hosted by funnyman, Riaad Moosa, who had the
audience in stitches all night.
The aim of
the Crystals is
to bring all our local talent together to honour them for the hard work they
put into keeping us entertained.

Leading the Way: SABC Sport’s Carol Manana and gsport Editor Kass Naidoo

Kass Naidoo was given the honour of presenting the "Best Sports Presenter" and "Best
Local Sports Star" category.
SABC Sport’s
Carol Manana, looking dazzling in a long metallic dress, was the only woman nominated
for Best Sports Presenter award, which was won by SuperSport and Jacaranda
sports anchor Darren Scott.
Top SA
swimmer, Jessica Pengelly, was nominated for Best Local Sports Star, won by
Springbok sensation, Bryan Habana.
gsport
August 2006 Woman of the Month, Leanne Manas, one of the best dressed women on
the night, walked away with her fourth Best Female TV Presenter Award, an
accolade that is richly deserved.

Generation’s
Connie Ferguson, featured as gsport’s February 2007 Woman of the Month, won
Best Soap Actress. She was delighted to hear about her many fans who write to
gsport, wishing her well. Top Billing’s
Jeannie D, nominated for the 2008 gsport Style Star award, won Best-dressed
Female TV Presenter.
Other stars
spotted at the Crystal Awards include gsport’s June 2008 Cover Girl, Miss South
Africa 2007, Tansey Coetzee, who told gsport she will be leaving soon to
contest the Miss Universe contest, and plans to come back with the crown, Binnelanders
Michelle Botes, featured as gsport’s October 2006 Woman of the Month, who dazzled
in a knee length red coat, and the soon to be married, Edith Venter, looking as
glamorous as usual.
A great time was had by all. A big thank you to People Magazine for doing their bit to celebrate talented South Africans and their contribution to a vibrant nation.
