Tongaat
residence Cynthia Ndzaba has her sights set on playing for South Africa before the year is up,
and she is confident of realising her dream. Cynthia has made a name for
herself in the volleyball arena, since being selected for the SA students’
squad which participated in the Federation of African Students Games at Tshwane
University of Technology in 2006.

This
talented 21-year-old, who started playing volleyball when she was in grade nine
at Tongaat Secondary School, was selected again last December to represent SASSU
in the World Student Games which took place in Thailand.

Now she has
just heard that she will be going to Uganda to once again participate in
the FASU Games from 6-26 July 2008.

“I
never thought volleyball would take me places because I was just fooling around
when my school teacher E Kassie spotted a
talent in me and took me to trials.” she said.

 Cynthia was
picked for her 1st provincial side the same year and she was selected for the
u/16 team. She has represented KZN volleyball sides in all her age group
ranking.

After
completing her matric at Tongaat Secondary School, she was awarded a bursary at the University of Johannesburg,
where she became a captain and made the Gauteng
senior volleyball side while doing her 1st year.

Cynthia is
inspired by her mother Gugu Nzaba who happens to be her mentor. “My mom is
everything to me; she is my mentor, my role model and my friend. I
honestly don’t know what will happen in my life without her because she has
been so supportive.” she said.

Apart from
traveling the world with volleyball teams, Cynthia loves swimming and reading
news papers. When she finishes her B Tech in Sport management she wants to
become a sports marketer. Her goal now is to make the National volleyball
senior team before the end of this year

“That
is not my wish but it is what I am going to do this year because I believe that
with lot of hard work everything is possible.” said Cynthia with
confidence.
