Zimbabwe’s rowing sensation, Daniella Kaschula, claimed two medals at the virtual 2022 Canadian Indoor Rowing Championship which concluded on Sunday, 30 January.
Marking its 39th edition, competitors from around the globe raced from their respective countries.
Right from the start of the women’s U19 500m, Kaschula maintained her momentum to claim gold in 1:37.8.
Kenna Johnson from Canada came in second in 1:41.8, while Sydney Huber settled for a bronze medal.
The U19 women’s 2000m race was incredibly tight as Kaschula and Canada’s Mira Calder were both aiming for gold.
Kaschula showed pure strength starting the race strong but was caught off guard at the 1500m interval when Calder took charge of the race.
The went toe-to-toe to the finish line, where Calder maintained her lead to take gold, while Kaschula remained in second place to add to her medal tally. Riley Richardson completed the podium with a well-earned bronze medal.
Kaschula’s parents shared their excitement, saying: “We are in awe of her perseverance, commitment and success in rowing. From a little girl, we recognized that she was gifted, and we are excited that her determination has moulded her. Her will to push through the pains and hardship is just out of this world. It’s an honour for us to support her in every way we can to help her achieve her dreams.”
Kaschula’s victory at the Canadian Indoor Rowing Championship means that she automatically qualifies for the World Rowing Indoor Championship for later this year.
