Top seed Delien Kleinhans won the women’s title on the final day of the R120 000 KM Sport Premier Challenge at Selbourne Park Tennis Club in East London on Tuesday, 2 February 2021.
18-year old Kleinhans defeated the second seeded Heike Janse van Vuuren in a three setter after she lost the first set 3-6, managing to come back strongly and win the next two sets 6-4 6-4, and claim the Open title.
U12 top seed Milan Swanepoel beat Julia Kockott in straight sets without losing a game, second-seeded Ile Lategan overcame U14 top seed Abigayel Vosloo for the age-group honours, while Under-16 top seed beat KZN’s Kaitlyn Ramduth 6-4 6-1 for that title.
In the doubles open results, Kleinhans returned to the victory for the doubles final teamed with Janse van Vuuren, the top seeds bettering the Eastern Cape second seeded pair of Karli Roux and Lente Taljard 6-4 6-3 to bag the doubles title.
Up next for Kleinhans is the Ilana Kloss International – Women’s ITF $25,000 World Tour event to be held in Potchefstroom from Monday, 8 February.
Kleinhans has been awarded a wild card entry into the qualifying tournament, which will be played on Sunday.
