The women’s race in the PowerAde Dome2Dome Cycling Spectacular will likely next year be upgraded to form a part of the international calendar, event organisers have said.
The men’s race forms part of the UCI Africa Tour for the first time this year, and is also the first commercially owned event in South Africa in which riders can earn UCI points.
"We really want to get it 100 per cent right this year, and then next year also accommodate the women," said Dome2Dome organizer Leandro le Roux.
"We’ve been working with Cycling South Africa, and CSA have agreed to put the women’s event forward for sanctioning as well next year.
“We’re very excited about welcoming Africa’s riders to the event and everything is in place to showcase the organizational capability of Africa," said Le Roux.
